Hi all

I didnt really know where to post this so I am putting it here.

Bernice is 2 yrs and 4.5 mths now. She was interested in the potty at 18mths really but didnt have the language then and it would have been much harder. At 2 she was clearly ready but we were right at the start of when things went so wrong for Gems at home and with all the stress and upheaval here we thought it best to leave it.

Last wk Bernice was playing with the toilet- pretending to sit on it, saying shhhhhhh weeeeeee tiddle tiddle tiddle when sat on it posting a bit of paper down the loo, flush the chain and "washey de hants" over and over. She would have a wet nappy after this.

So all in all, decided that we have to do it now really.

Day 1, everyone told me not to do pull ups and get knickers and books about loo's for her to look at (got some really good ones- if anyone wants the list let me know) and stickers and chocolate buttons.

At 9.20 there were little puddles everywhere and 3 outfits in the wash and so I sent for some pull ups! Turned round to a very upset bernice and a poop on the floorScared Sad So i did the "never mind" bit and dropped the poo down the toilet and Bernie waved "bye bye poo!"

I just cant pick up at that rate so gone for the pull ups.

Bernice is good at feeling when she is wet or dirty.

At the moment she is being sat on the loo every 30 mins or so, each time she tries she gets a sticker and if she manages to perform then she gets a chocolate too! (the look of absolute delight at the chocolate is great).

Bernice is a very willful young lady and wants it all her way and is in full flight terrible 2s with strops wobblers and tempers all the day.

Her biggest battle are over food and she wants what she wants to eat and will throw all the stuff in front of her (whether it includes the thing she likes or not) because she wanted to unwrap it or wants the PINK BOWL. I nearly killed myself making roasty chicken with potato and carrot (her favourite alongside fishy bake) and having thrown it once she picked up the bowl and clocked my nose with it. I had to leave the room, shut the door and felt hot tears runnig down my face.

Bernice did not like being left like this and WAAAAAAAAAAAAed but she did say "sorry mummy" and stroked my arm.

Anyway, she is doing ok with the toilet we are now thurs and she started monday and we have had 2 successful wee's in the loo at 9.10

not bad I think.

Got my help in today.

Jenni xx

Hi Jenni , my son started toilet training at 2 and a half but as he was a nursery it was easier for me , i used pull ups at night and when we were going out for the day, it is hard and there is a lot of washing to be done but it will get easier , your doing all the right things encouraging Bernice and rewarding her when she has been on the toilet ThumpUp

Oh lovely Jenni-I know I shouldn't laugh, but the above also describes Livvie to a T.

It is so hard potty training littlies when you are fit, active and well, but must be very very difficult for you. Berny is such a bright little thing though and I'm sure she will be trained in no time.

Take care my friend

Hi Jenni,

I remember when I was potty training Hannah she was just like Bernice so I gave up, put her back in nappies and tried again a month later and she got the hang of it straight away.

With the food, she ate her meals with us and my attitude was, she either eats it or she doesn't, no fuss. If she didn't want it I took it away , no messing about!
She is grown up now and eats anything that's put in front of her and loves cooking!
Good luck with it all!
Love, Doreen xx

Well i done Jamie in a day he was 2 and half brain works with bladder .I would not do a child before this as you get puddles and packets

i SAT jamie on the loo asked him if he could feel the wee wee coming he did it .So off with nappy on with big boy pants .

i only put a nappie on at night .

i got the odd wet outfit but carried spares

Maybe Jenni if you are having a bit of trouble give up and start again when she is 2 and half .
As rembember its harder for you .

a month before Jamie had chickhen pox and spots on his bum so i tried then .But no puddles and packets

about 6 weeks later i did it in one .As i belive before 2 and half brain and bladder don,t work togetor

I remember Jimmy at this age Jenni - they make you chuckle ten times a day but upset you at least once. My RA wasn't too bad then either and I still found it a struggle. All my friends have found girls a lot harder to potty train than the boys that were about Jim's age. I think it's because they are more strong willed as you said. My niece was almost 3 before she was having any of it. Jimmy was great but the problem was he would just take out his widger a wee anywhere cos he couldn't stand being wet. He tried to pee up the church gates one day on the was home from nursery, I was mortified as the other mums were walking home with me. Each child is soooo different. Glad you had some help today.

My five lovelies all have differing stories about potty training but the no1 rule I followed was to actually keep them in nappies until they were ready and I could evade potties because I just cannot stand them!

All of them were toilet trained by 3 1/2years, but Marie, my only daughter, was 2yrs.

The longer one leaves it the less accidents they tend to have!

Love,

Amanda

reading your post really took me back, oh deep joy !!
I must be honest when Mine were potty training i never used pull ups I found that they confused the
issue, feeling a lot like nappies, and I found them very difficult to pull up or down with speed, that was before RA!!
Good luck Jenni

Hope Bernice is enjoying the attention of pottie training Jenni - I forgot to mention - but I had 3 or 4 potties and had one out in nearly every room in the house so there was always one immediately available whenever Jim felt the need! He even used to sit on one in front of the telly sometimes. I know some people thought it was a bit strange when they came round but he was dry by the time time he was 2 and 3 quarters though - it was really quick. Hope the steroid is still working for you so you can keep up. Thinking of you.

I remember it so well, even though it was such a long time ago. I remember taking the potty everywhere, every time we went out. I can't imagine what it must be like for you, Jenni. The only positive thing I can say is that it doesn't usually take long for them to get the idea.

Your stories have cheered me up and made me laugh. George was similar to many other little boys andwould go into the garden for a wee when first "trained". Grandpa used to get embarrassed as he would just go and wee outside wherever we were!!!

LOL LOL
If Hannah was outside playing, she would insist I took the potty out to her, rather than interrupt her play and go inside!Blushing
They have no inhibitions at that age!LOL

well, the toilet training is some kind of funny game to Bernice.

She likes her little loo seat so much she kissed it and gave it a pat today and then I realised she was kissing the frogs on it like her princess story!Scared

very very keen on "washy di hants" and would like to squidge lovely bubbly soap everywhere- including Daddys garden work boots- (what a LOVELY surprise that was for him this morning!)Razz

One day she might wee on the loo everytime- but in the meantime there are FAR more interesting things to do as we are officially 2 and lots of jubilant business to get on with.

Plus she has a sudden onset heavy cold and temperature and so I am limply carrying on, surrounded by lots of little pairs of "peppa pig tickers" (knickers) on radiators and sent for another pack of B***dy pull ups!

I am just going to keep trying with the loo and hope that eventually it will click. I am being positive with her, saying "oh well" with the little puddles and congratulating her for good tries with "STAR SICKER" and chocolate buttons of delight.

one day she might even be dry......Smile

"washy di hants" LOVE it!! Thinking of u every time i go anywhere near a tap now!

Don't worry Jenni, if it turns out it doesnt quite work this time - like others say sometimes it can be better to have a break / wait a while if u begin to think maybe not quite the right time - specially as bit snuffley by the sound of it, aw bless xx

We did this with my nephew (potty training, take two)
After a difficult first attempt second go worked really well - potty quickly abandoned in favour of The Loo (or the nearest bush! ) - no pressure, they just seem to know when its right for them. Summer always seems most sensible time to me anyway,

Now, Beware any explosive sneezing - may cause leaks!

Take care,
Lots of love ~ Liz xxxxx
